Choose the right purpose for the message
Decide whether the message is meant to inform, apologize, ask, support, or close a practical loop. For a message about how to support a parent with postpartum depression, use this factual base: acknowledge the event and practical strain using only information the parent has chosen to share.
Use detail that helps a decision
Include the smallest set of details that lets the recipient understand the impact and choose a response. Offer a meal, transport, childcare, advocacy, ordinary company, or another specific manageable help. Make the immediate next step clear enough that the recipient can answer without reconstructing the entire history.
Know what the message cannot achieve
Do not offer diagnoses, compare children, demand updates, or post about the family. Use medical, safeguarding, crisis, domestic abuse, or emergency services when a parent or child may be in danger. The message can offer clarity, but it cannot guarantee forgiveness, agreement, attention, or renewed contact.
