Describe the item, not the history
Give the item type, a distinguishing feature, and the last place or date you saw it. For a phone, document, or key, do not publish serial numbers, access codes, or an exact address unnecessarily.
Ask whether they have seen it rather than accusing them of keeping it. If you have evidence of theft, use the appropriate authorities instead of confronting them through messages.
Make return safe and simple
Offer a prepaid courier, a trusted third person, a staffed location, or another contact-free option. If the item contains sensitive data, mention that urgency without revealing the data itself.
Include one alternate contact method only if you are comfortable sharing it. Kildr can keep your phone number private unless you choose to show it.
- Use identifying details that do not expose secrets.
- Avoid accusations.
- Offer a no-contact return method.
Escalate according to the item
Replace or secure bank cards, identity documents, keys, and devices immediately rather than waiting on a reply. Contact the issuer, landlord, employer, or police when appropriate.
One announced request is enough when ordinary contact is closed. Do not keep sending if they decline or say they do not have it.
