Read the message as the recipient received it
Identify the accusations, insults, demands, or threats that crossed a line. Do not delete the message from your own memory by summarizing it as I got a little heated.
Correct dangerous or false statements immediately
If you made a false claim, threatened consequences, or implied that they were unsafe, correct that plainly. If a real threat or safety concern exists, use the appropriate professional process instead of bargaining in messages.
- Name the wording you take responsibility for.
- Withdraw false accusations without conditions.
- Do not send a stream of follow-up apologies.
Let silence cool the channel
Send one complete correction and give space. If contact is prohibited, unwanted, or blocked, do not use another channel to deliver an apology.
