How to tell if someone blocked your number

There is no notification when you are blocked, only a handful of clues. Here is how to read them, and how to stop refreshing for an answer that is not coming.

Why there is no certain answer

Phones are designed so that being blocked is invisible on purpose. If a block announced itself, it would just become another thing to argue about. So the platforms leave you with symptoms rather than a diagnosis, and every symptom has an innocent explanation too.

That is worth knowing before you read the signs below, because the uncertainty is the part that hurts most. People can spend weeks refreshing a message thread looking for proof that will never load.

Signs on iPhone

iMessage gives you the most to work with, which is why the clues are clearer between two iPhones.

  • Your iMessages stop showing Delivered, and there is never a Read receipt, even for someone who always had them on.
  • A blue iMessage suddenly sends as a green SMS, which can mean their phone is off or that you have been blocked at the iMessage level.
  • Calls go straight to voicemail after a single ring or no ring, every time, at every hour.
  • The voicemail you leave lands in a separate area and they never respond, though this alone proves little.

Signs on Android

Android is less explicit, so you are reading patterns rather than a single tell.

  • Texts never move past Sent to Delivered for that one contact, while everyone else shows Delivered normally.
  • Calls go once to voicemail immediately, consistently, rather than ringing several times first.
  • On RCS or a chat app, the message stays on a single tick and never advances.

What none of this proves

A dead battery, airplane mode on a flight, Do Not Disturb, a lost phone, poor signal, or simply being ignored can all produce the exact same pattern as a block. Do not build a whole story on one green bubble. If you must test, resist the urge to do it from a second number, because that is where a painful situation quietly turns into harassment.

If it turns out they blocked you

If the signs hold for weeks and you know in your gut it was deliberate, the healthiest next step is almost always to let it be. If there is genuinely one thing left to say, the question becomes how to say it once without forcing your way past their decision.

That is a different problem with a narrow, honest answer, and it is the whole reason Kildr exists. We wrote about it in detail in reaching someone who blocked you, honestly.
